Last Resort is a painting exhibition featuring works by artists Danielle Roberts & Jack Arthur Wood Jr.

Opening reception June 17 7-9pm

Exhibition Run June 17 - July 15 2017

Danielle Roberts is an artist born in Stockton California and raised on Vancouver Island. She completed her BFA at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2013.  As a child she was enamored by the fantastical experience of American amusement parks. This fascination drove her artistic practice into the musings of constructed environments. Her work often draws from public spaces based on memory, perception and facades.  She appropriates mass produced images and objects into her narrative landscapes. Instigating a response to social relationships between materialism and idealistic pursuits of constructed values. Intuitively her work plays out in the way she observes the world, at once inviting, spontaneous and disquieting.

Jack Arthur Wood Jr. is an artist and writer working in printed and painted media. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Printing and painting are equally weighted in Wood's creative moves; in the shared space of a print shop his paintings are activated simultaneously, likewise he mixes print into paint. Processes and materials are dissolved into product disappearing origin and medium hierarchy. The content of Wood's work is often tethered to landscape, and is heavily laced with hectic patterns where figurative subjects also hold space. Wood feels grounded by queer theories of horizonal futurity and infinite becoming in his practice. He refers to his practice as Pretty Color Time (chanted with enthusiasm). Aiming to be fearless in creating, he approachs shadowy traces of dysphoria with the cleansing light of critical thinking, compassion, and hard work. Wood's images describe the precipice of change and the excitement of impermanence relative to all aspects of living. Ultimately, the work is a declaration that being alone is physically forever, but that ultimately there is joy to reap in the sharing of space and our journey through it.
